As a licensed owner you will have parking, admission and pre-race paddock privileges at most tracks. We can organize backstretch tours and you will have the ability to watch your horse during training hours. If we're lucky enough to get to the winner's circle we'll all pose with our horse, get a copy of the photo and video of the race.
Each partnership is created as a separate Minnesota based LLC with it's own bank account and articles of organization. Please check with your tax advisor on how any earnings or losses will affect your taxes.
All winnings in excess of 4 months training expenses will generate a vote of the partners to either receive a cash dividend, look to purchase additional racehorses or leave the money in the group for future expenses and eventual disbursement.
The expenses of a racehorse in training can vary considerably throughout the country. A rough monthly estimate of training, vet care, farrier service and misc. bills is approximately $2500 a month at a mid-level racetrack. Thoroughbreds will run about once every four to six weeks while standardbreds may average once every 10-days, though for lower purse awards. Each group will also earmark $100 per year to the Don MacBeth Fund for disabled jockeys and a local charity that finds homes for retired racehorses. This game is challenging, fun and rewarding and we feel that it is important to give something back - especially to the athletes, equine and human, that make it possible.
The value of racing cannot only be measured in dollars and cents. If you love the sport, nothing compares to the thrill of watching your own horse charging down the stretch. However, racing is a speculative investment and we feel that it is important for the partners to understand this thoroughly before getting involved. Our aim is to have fun and to grow our investment with a complete understanding of the risks involved.
The Managing Partner will send out e-mail updates once a week with the latest updates on horses the stable is involved with. More frequent updates will be sent as horses record workouts and run in races. Our trainers are experts in their business and we generally will let them make the racing decisions. Partner input is encouraged, but communication will be funneled through the managing partner for ease of communication. No question is stupid and no input is out of bounds. We will always give you a truthful and direct response to any inquiry.
